Creating Managed Syndication Offers

Basics of Syndication
You can create syndication offers whenever you create or edit a player. Brightcove recommends that you create a new player for syndication separate from the player on your web site. When you modify the titles or lineups displayed in a syndicated player, all published instances of that player update as well.

You can only create one syndication offer per player; however you can create multiple players using different design templates or lineups for syndication. Creating multiple players and syndication offers allows a potential Affiliate to choose the version that best integrates into their existing site design. Affiliates must apply for each player separately. The last tab of the Player Editor is where you can edit syndication settings. Simply enable syndication on the player you want to syndicate - or create a new player and syndicate that one.

Creating a Syndication Offer
On the syndication tab of the Player Editor create a name and description for the syndication offer. In the description you should provide details about your player, including the type of content you will provide, how often you will update the content, how long you plan to make the player available for syndication, your contact information, and any special requirements for Affiliates. The more information you provide in the description, the more comfortable Affiliates will be adding your player to their site. Also keep in mind that the details of your offer will be visible in the Syndication Marketplace if you make it publicly available.

The syndication offer creation process lets you describe your offer and define options for contact information, approvals, and publishing code.

Default Settings
Below Offer Name & Description in the Syndication tab of the Player Editor you will see a checkbox titled 'Use default settings' (These include all of the settings listed below 'Use default settings').You have the option to deselect this box and customize for each offer or specify default settings in your account and leave it selected. Default settings can be accessed by going to the syndication tab of the console and then to the Default Settings tab. Regardless of which option you choose we will review the available settings in the following sections.

Approval Methods
For each player you create, you can specify whether or not you want to manually review each syndication request you receive from an affiliate or automatically approve them. You always have the ability to revoke an affiliate's access to a player at a later time. An additional approval method allows you to manually review an affiliate's first request but automatically approve all subsequent requests from that affiliate when they use the same registration information.

In the Default Settings section of the Syndication tab in the console you can choose to receive an email notification when a syndication request is received by checking the notification checkbox and providing an email address. The email address you provide for notification does not need to be your Brightcove sign-in address. If you choose not to receive email notifications, you will need to manually check for new syndication requests in the Manage Affiliates area of the Syndication tab when you sign in.

Types of Publishing Code
You can make up to three types of publishing code available to Affiliates. The different types of code are described below.

JavaScript publishing code is the preferred code for publishing a player using Brightcove. JavaScript publishing ensures that your syndicated player will be restricted to only the URLs specified in the syndication request and provides more detailed reporting data on Affiliate players.

HTML publishing code provides compatibility with social networking services such as MySpace as well as some blogging services that disallow JavaScript in posts. HTML Publishing code does not function when domain restrictions are enabled for a player. Any players previously published via HTML will be become non-functional if domain restrictions are enabled. Therefore, you should use HTML publishing code when you want to allow open access to your syndicated player for a large number of Affiliates using services such as MySpace. Players published using HTML provide only limited reporting data and may not load automatically due to changes in the way Microsoft Internet Explorer handles plug-ins.

ActionScript publishing code allows for embedding a syndicated player inside an Affiliate's existing Flash (.swf) movie. Enable ActionScript publishing code if you want to make your Player available to embed in Flash-based web sites or applications. Promotional Images

Click on the 'Select Images...' button to upload images for your syndication offer and customize the appearance to potential affiliates. The background color of the syndication offer screen is white. Logos and syndication images should be Jpeg images and will look the best when displayed on a white background. See the image specifications below:

Publisher Logo 230 x 60 appears in the top left of the Syndication offer
Offer Promotion 460 x 60 appears in the top right area of the syndication offer
Offer Promotion 475 x 345 appears to the left of the offer
details area

The syndication offer contains your logo, offer promotion image, and syndication still as well as specifications for the syndicated player. The images correspond to the locations in the syndication offer shown above.

When you have finished adding images, click 'Update' in the bottom right-hand corner and return to the syndication tab of the player editor. Distribution

To have your offer listed in the Syndication Marketplace select this box. This is an excellent way to increase distribution of your content. To explore the Syndication Marketplace click here.

Request Extended Information
You have the option of requiring additional contact and company information from your affiliates. To add this to the application flow, simply select the 'Request Extended information' setting. You will always have access to an Affiliate's email address though the Brightcove Console regardless of whether or not you request extended information.

When you are satisfied with your offer settings and are done creating the player, click save or select another tab to edit in the Player Editor.
