Creating a Lineup
A Lineup is a collection of Titles that are grouped together in a particular order in a Brightcove Player. Some Player templates accomodate a single lineup or multiple lineups. Titles in a Lineup can be ordered manually or automatically. A Lineup can contain a mix of Pay Media Titles and non-Pay Media Titles.
To create a Lineup:
- Select the Lineups tab from the Brightcove Console.
- Click the New Lineup button in the lower left.
- Accept the default Manual Lineup or change to Automatic Lineup.
- Manual Lineup allows you to drag and drop videos into a particular order in a Lineup when you proceed to the Manage Titles area.
- Automatic Lineup adds all titles in your account into the Lineup. You can narrow the number of Titles in the Lineup by specifying that only titles that match common criteria be included in the Lineup (known as "filtering by tags", available from the Manage Titles area). If the titles have been published in a Player, the new active titles will be immediately available to viewers once the Lineup is saved.
- Enter a name for your Lineup. (Important: Viewers will see this Lineup name when browsing to watch video titles.)
- [Optional] Enter a description for the Lineup. (Viewers may see this lineup description when browsing or searching for Titles, depending on the Player template.)
- [Optional] Add a thumbnail to represent the lineup to viewers by clicking Select and browsing to choose the thumbnail file. (Viewers may see this thumbnail when browsing or searching for Titles, depending on the Player template.)
- [Optional] For the Reference ID, add text or a code to target this Lineup from an existing publishing site or content management system (separate from the Brightcove service.)
- Click Next (or select the Manage Lineup tab on the left).
- Organize (filter, reorder, or delete) Titles in your Lineup, depending on your Lineup type:
When you first choose this tab: You will see text that orients you to working in the Lineups section of the Console. To access the work area itself, click "Continue to Section." To skip this information from now on, clear the "Always show this message" checkbox in the lower left. To view this information again later, click "Help" in the upper right.
To navigate between pages in the Lineups area: Either choose a tab on the left (Description or Manage Titles) or click the Next or Previous buttons, if available. Do NOT use your browser Back/Forward options, as these may cause you to exit the Console. If you do click Back accidentally, simply click your browser Forward button to return to the Console (without having to sign in again).
Managing Titles in a Manual Lineup
- Add titles to your lineup by selecting titles on the left and clicking the Add button. (Adding titles individually adds the latest title above the selected title in the Lineup.)

- MacOS users: Press and hold the command key as you select titles. Multiple titles added this way will appear in the list in the same order that you selected them - To select a range of titles:

To reorder titles: Select a title in your Lineup and either Drag and Drop or use the Up or Down arrows below the Lineup.
To remove titles: Select a title in your Lineup and click the Remove button in the center.

Managing Titles in an Automatic Lineup
By default, an Automatic Lineup will include ALL Titles in your account as they become active. To refine what might otherwise be a large or generic Lineup, you can filter it by using the Tags you assign to your Titles.
Automatic Lineups are an incredibly powerful and time-saving tool for automatically creating specific groupings of content. Titles that meet appropriate criteria are instantly added to an Automatic Lineup.
To select and order the titles in an Automatic Lineup:
- [Optional] Refine the list of titles that appear in your Automatic Lineup on the right of the Manage Titles page (Lineups > Manage Titles).
- Select Filter By Tags.
A list of Previously Used Tags appears at the bottom. - Select whether to include Titles that match ANY or that match ALL of the tags.
For example: If one Title has the tags "rubies," and "rings" and another Title with "rubies" and "emeralds," if you choose to filter Titles that match ANY and specified the "rubies" tag, both Titles will be included in the Lineup. If, however, you chose to filter Titles that match ALL and specified "rubies" and "rings," only the first Title would be pulled into that Lineup. - Enter the Tags (or click on any available tags in the "previously used tags" area) and click Filter Lineup to see the resulting Lineup.
- Choose a Playing Order, whether Alphabetical, Oldest to Newest, or Newest to oldest. The titles in your Lineup on the right reflect your selection immediately.
- [Optional] Set a Title Limit to limit the number of Titles that appear in your Lineup, after enforcing the Playing Order. For example: If you set the Playing Order for "Newest to Oldest" and then set Title Limit to "5," your Lineup will contain the latest five Titles.
- Click Save for your Lineup choices to take effect.
If you haven't added tags to your Titles yet: Edit your Titles to include tags (Titles > select the title > Edit > Classification > Tags). More info on adding tags.
When you publish a tag-based Lineup in a Player: New titles created in your account that match the criteria are published automatically in any Player that contains that Lineup.
To edit your Automatic Lineup anytime: Choose the "Lineups" tab, select a current lineup from the list, and click "Edit." Choose from the tabs on the left, make your changes, and save them.
