Creating a Title

In the Brightcove service, a Title represents your main full-length video and its supporting images, preview video, and metadata information specific to that video, such as its description. Titles can be added to Lineups or added directly to any single title Player.

Before you create your Title:

  • Consider preparing your content and uploading your assets into the Brightcove service before creating a Title. However, if you haven’t done this yet, you can upload files during the Title creation process (described below).

  • A Title MUST include a full-length video (WMV full-length for sellable video titles, Flash full-length for all others). In addition, a title can include: a thumbnail, a video still, a bumper video, and a preview video. (A preview video is advisable when your full-length video is 15 minutes or longer or when the video is for sale/rent.)

  • If you click Save before providing all required files and information in the same session: A red exclamation mark appears on any left tab (Videos, etc.) where you still need to complete some information for the title to be created.

To create a Title:

  1. Select the Titles tab from the Brightcove Console.

  2. Click the New Title button in the lower left.

  3. Fill in the required Name and Short Description fields. Optionally, enter any other applicable information, such as Language, Rating, or Awards. (For more detail about adding descriptions and other general information, see Adding Effective Title Metadata.)

  4. [Optional] Click Next or choose the Economics tab to set the economic model and options for the Title:

    • Advertising/No Advertising
Available options here vary by Brightcove account type. If advertising is enabled for this Title, this takes precedence over the advertising policy (ad frequency, etc.) set for the Player. For example: For your Player to support an ad for every Title, you need to explicitly enable advertising for each Title using this setting.
    • Pay Media
Choose this option to enable consumers to download the title for purchase or rent. More detail on creating video titles for purchase or rent

PLEASE NOTE: Pay media will be discontinued on July 31, 2008. Pay media is no longer available for new Brightcove customers whose Brightcove account was created after April 24, 2008. Pay media for all customers will be discontinued permanently on July 31, 2008. For more information, see the Pay Media End of Life FAQ.

  5. Click Next or choose the Videos tab on the left to add the video file(s) you want to package into the title:

    • Full-length video - Either a Flash full-length or WMV full-length video (for Pay Media Titles). Click Select File to choose from the list of previously uploaded full-length videos in your Brightcove account. Or, you can upload a prepared video now by clicking Open File Upload. You can preview Flash full-length videos (not WMV full-length videos) by clicking the Preview button.

  8. Click Next or choose the Scheduling tab to specify when you want the Title to be available.
    • Starting (EST) - Select a date and time if you don't want the Title to be available immediately (the default).
    • Ending (EST) - Select a date and time if you don't want the Title to be available forever (the default).

  9. Click Save. You are asked whether you want to activate the title and make it available for immediate distribution.

    • No - If you choose No, you can activate this title later from the Titles tab. Select the title and click the Activate button in the lower right.

Notes:

  • When you first choose the Titles tab: You will see text that orients you to working in the Titles section of the Console. To access the work area itself, click "Continue to Section". To skip this information from now on, clear the "Always show this message" checkbox in the lower left. To view this information again later, click "Help" in the upper right.
  • To navigate among pages in the Titles area: Either choose a tab on the left (Description, Videos, etc.) or click the Next or Previous buttons, if available. Do NOT use your browser Back/Forward options, as these may cause you to exit the Console. If you do click Back accidentally, simply click your browser Forward button to return to the Console (without having to sign in again).
  • If viewers have subscribed to an RSS feed for your Player: Viewers will see the Title name, short description, and thumbnail image when they receive notice that that this new Title has been added to your published Player.
  • To edit a Title anytime: Click the Titles tab, select the Title in the list, and click the Edit button. Choose from the tabs on the left, make your changes, and save them. You can edit a title, even after it has been activated.
