Selecting a Custom Domain Name

Custom Domain Name is only available for Premium customers at this time. If you are interested in upgrading your Brightcove account to a Premium account please contact Brightcove for more information.

You have the option to identify a custom domain name at the account level for use in your players. That custom domain name replaces link.brightcove.com in the RSS feeds for your players as well as in the links to your players (e.g., when a viewer clicks the get link menu item in your player).

You must complete the two steps below to set up your Brightcove account to use a custom domain name.

Step 1: Configure DNS Settings

You need to identify a domain name to use for your Brightcove RSS feeds and video links. To do so, you need to configure a CNAME (Canonical Name) with the DNS (Domain Name System) to associate your domain with link.brightcove.com.

Contact your network administrator for help with this step. Remember that it can take up to 48 hours for DNS changes to take effect.

Step 2: Configure your Brightcove account

After you have set up your CNAME:

  1. Log in to the Brightcove Console.
  2. Click on My Account at the top right.
  3. Click on Organizational Profile.
  4. Scroll down to the Custom Link Hostname section:
  5. Enter the domain you have selected in the http:// field.
  6. Click the Validate button to ensure that your domain is configured correctly. If your domain has not been configured correctly, you will receive a pop up error message stating "Your hostname is not configured correctly." Check to make sure that your DNS changes have taken effect and that you have entered the domain correctly so that the validation step succeeds.
  7. Click Update. If you do not click Update, then your changes to the domain will not take effect.

Yes. You can update your account setting to use link.brightcove.com rather than a custom domain name. To do this, follow the steps above to delete the domain name you previously entered from the http:// field and click Update to save the change. As soon as you do this, any viewer clicking the player Menu button for an RSS feed or to get a link will see link.brightcove.com in the URL.

No, these are separate player options. You have always had the option to host your player at a Brightcove URL or a web address of your choice by setting the Player URL option when editing a player.

If you enter a player URL for one of your Brightcove players, then on load, the viewer will be redirected to the player published at the URL you specify, however the links displayed in the player interface will not be branded with your custom domain name.

If you choose to configure a custom domain name for your publisher account, then all links displayed in the player interface, RSS feeds, and 'share this' emails will be branded with your own custom domain name.
