Logo Overlay
A logo overlay is a small transparent image that is displayed in the playback window. In the video industry, a logo overlay is commonly referred to as a digital on-screen graphic (DOG), bug, or watermark. Clicking the logo overlay opens a publisher-specified URL in a new browser window. You select an overlay at either the account or the title level:
- A logo overlay you select at the account level is applied to every title in the account.
- A logo overlay you select at the title level takes precedence over an account-level logo overlay. Whenever both an account-level and title-level logo overlay have been selected, the title-level logo overlay will be shown.
Selecting a Logo Overlay for an Account
- In the Console, click the "My Account Link."
- Click the "Organization Profile link."
- Scroll down to the "Logo Overlay section."
- Click Select to browse to the logo overlay file.
- Click "Open File Upload" to upload a logo overlay via Quick Upload.
- Logo overlays can be with PGN or GIF files smaller then 300k.
- If you have uploaded more than one logo overlay, select the one you want to use and click "Select."
- In the Click Through URL field, enter the URL of the page that you want to open when the viewer clicks the logo overlay. Use the format: http://www.brightcove.com
- In the "Tooltip field," add a tooltip that will appear when a viewer pauses the mouse over the link.
- Select an "alignment" for the logo overlay.
- Consider clicking the Download our PSD template link to use the Brightcove recommended logo overlay styles:
Logo overlay color: white @ 25% opacity
Drop shadow: black @ 35% opacity
These styles emulate the watermark logo overlays seen on major television channels and allow the logo overlay to be seen on most background colors. - Click "Update."
Adding a Logo Overlay to an Individual Title
To add a logo overlay to a title:
- On the Titles tab, choose to create or edit a title.
- Click the Images tab on the left and scroll down to the logo overlay options. For a title, these match exactly those at the account level.
Example
Here is an example of a logo overlay:
Logo Overlay Dimensions
The recommended size for a logo overlay is a graphic that takes up no more than 25% of the height or width of the playback window (for a 480x360 playback window, 25% of the width is 120px and 25% of the height is 90px). If you select a mostly transparent image, a viewer will be able to click anywhere in the area of the logo overlay to open the specified link in a new browser window. In addition, with an image of this size, you can position it in the playback window using the Alignment dropdown list when you add the logo overlay.
The maximum size for a logo overlay is 464x344 (which is the size of the playback window minus an 8px border on each side). If you select a graphic of this size, you will need to place it within the 464x344 space on your own; you will not be able to position it using the Alignment dropdown.
Some Brightcove players can be resized at run time or are by default smaller then the standard 480x360 pixels. If the player is set to a different size, the logo overlay will scale proportionately. For example, if the player is resized down to 50%, a 120x90px logo overlay would display at 60x45px. Therefore, you should select images for logo overlays that can be scaled down; logo overlays are never scaled above 100%.
Title Sharing and Syndication
When titles are shared with partner publishers, the logo overlay is distributed with the title. As a result, it is possible for just a subset of titles in a player’s lineup to have logo overlays. This might happen, for example, if the lineup includes titles shared by a publisher who uses logo overlays but the publisher distributing the player does not.
Another possibility is that a lineup will include titles from multiple brands, all of whom fall under a single parent brand. Logo overlays allow the brands to maintain their identities as assets are shared and repurposed.
When a title is virally syndicated, the logo overlay and link will be preserved.
If a title is distributed through Brightcove.com, please note that the logo overlay will not appear. This is due to the use of AS3 by Brightcove.com players.
