Publisher Promotion FAQ

There are a lot of ways you can promote your videos with Brightcove, including third-party search engines and Brightcove.com itself. Below you'll find details on how you can get the most out of these features.

What is a channel?
Brightcove.com is organized around channels. A channel is a group of thematically-similar videos from a single publisher. Channels are based on accounts that exist in the Brightcove Console. You can create additional channels by registering for additional accounts. In the future we'll enable the ability to manage multiple channels from one account.

How do I find and preview my channel page on Brightcove.com?
First, make sure you have your Brightcove account ID. If you don't know this number, you can look it up easily in the Brightcove Console. Click on My Account (top right corner of Console), then Organization Profile. You'll see the Account ID halfway down on the right. Second, click or copy and paste the following URL, and substitute your Account ID for the 'xxxxxx' a the end of this URL: http://www.brightcove.com/channel.jsp?channel=xxxxxx

What do I have to change in the Console to get all of my stuff listed on Brightcove.com?
In the Console On Brightcove.com
Title promotion and playback Most important setting. This makes titles discoverable and playable on Brightcove.com. Leave this checked on.
Organization Profile
  • Channel name
  • Channel description
  • Logo (80x60 pixels)
Copy and image appears on your Channel page and every where your channel shows up on Brightcove.com, including category and home pages.
Player promotion Makes all titles in player available for discovery via search on Brightcove.com and third-party video search engines.
Lineup promotion Promotes Lineups on your channel page, but does not either show or hide titles from the channel. This provides another way to browse videos on your channel.

If I promote the content in my players, in what video search engines will I be able to search and find my videos?

I have a subscription on part of my website or for some reason have to hide titles from public view, making them discoverable only on my website. What do I have to change?
No problem. Turn off Player promotion in the Player editor and turn off Title promote in the Title editor. Both of these are a link or two in from the front of the Console.

I'd like to make a new channel to feature some content that's not completely related to the channel I've got today. Can I have multiple channels? How do I do that?
Channels are tied to accounts, today. You can create a new account at no additional charge on Brightcove.com and put your other video content in that account. In the not-so-distant future we hope to provide the ability to create multiple channels tied to one main account.

How do I make money from Brightcove.com?
Today, all pay media titles are available for purchase on the site and we're working quickly to carry over advertising as well. In the meantime, there is no cost for promotion through Brightcove.com.

How do I get my channel promoted or featured on the home page or a category page on Brightcove.com?
Let us know that your channel is live, we'll take a look and feature it on the appropriate category page of the site, and perhaps the home page as a Channel of the Day. You can contact us through this form.

How can I get my channel to appear at the top of the category page(s) on which I'm listed?
Channels are listed, by default, in the order in which they have most recently been updated. If channel B was updated today, and channel A updated yesterday, then channel A will come up first in the list.

What is the difference between promotion and playback?
Promotion makes all titles available through search on third-party sites as well as Brightcove.com. Playback ensures maximum exposure to the largest possible audience on Brightcove.com by creating a title page for each video and making that video available for playback on the site. Promotion alone reduces the amount of exposure for the content in a channel.

How do I manage my promotion so that you drive traffic back to my website?
Be sure to configure the correct URL for your project in the Organization Profile in the Brightcove Console. In addition, the more titles you feature on Brightcove.com the more chance there is that search engines and viewers will find your content and expose your channel to the widest possible audience.
