Restricting Access to a Brightcove Player
Using the Brightcove Console , publishers can control:
- Whether or not a Player is available for public view (active or inactive).
Publishers can still preview and work with an inactive Player, until they are ready to make it active.
- Security settings for Player content:
Includes enabling/disabling the ActionScript/JavaScript API , whether content is restricted to viewers in the US, and whether the Player is restricted to a specific domain.
To limit affiliate access to a syndicated player: See Controlling Syndication.
To make an active Player inactive:
When you create a new Player, it is active by default.
- Click the Players tab, then select the Player name from the left.
The active/inactive status for the Player displays in the Player Details area on the right. - Click the Deactivate button on the lower right to prevent public viewing of this Player.
To set the security policy for restricting viewer access to Player content:
- Go to the Security tab.
- If you have already created your Player:
Select the Players tab, select the player, and click the Edit button to access the Security tab.
- If you are in the process of creating your Player:
Click the Security tab.
- Check or clear the checkmarks for the following settings:
- Disable ActionScript/JavaScript
API
Disabling ActionScript/JavaScript API: [Default] Prevents easy developer access to the internal workings of the Player.
Enabling ActionScript/JavaScript API: Allows a developer to easily communicate with the Player, access its data (such as Titles and Lineups), and to manipulate video playback. - Restrict access to viewers within the United States?
[Default = Not enabled] Applicable, for example, if a publisher’s distribution rights for video content is limited to the US. The Brightcove service determines which viewers to deny access to based on IP address. For example, if a viewer outside the US attempts to view this content, they will get a message stating that the content is not viewable. This is done by referencing a database of IP addresses sorted by geographic location. Users that are not listed properly should contact Brightcove.
Premium publishers can get access to Brightcove's advanced geo-filtering feature, which enables including or excluding users from more countries than just the U.S. For more information, see Geo-Filtering. - Restrict the player to your web domain?
[Default = Not enabled] Restricts your Player’s availability to any page of an individual website. Domain control settings (based on affiliate-provided URLs in a syndication request) for syndicated Players are unaffected by this setting. - Restricted Domain
Enter a URL that includes http:// or https://. Entering "http://www.website.com" doesn’t allow the Player to play if a viewer goes to http://website.com. Omitting the "www" (for example, http://website.com) will allow the Player to play from any subdomain of http://website.com such as http://website.com, http://www.website.com and http://news.website.com - Click Save when you have finished making your changes.
