Viral Syndication

Viral syndication allows your viewers to syndicate individual video titles from your account. The titles will playback in your Default Viral Title Player (a specific Single Title Player in your account that will be used to play titles when viewers use one of the viral syndication options). When linked, anyone can publish them throughout the internet on websites, blogs and social networking sites (such as Facebook or MySpace). Viral syndication allows more viewers to see your content and therefore drives more traffic to your website.

Viewers can use the "Get Code" or "Blog This" options in your player to get individual video titles from of your existing Brightcove players if viral syndication is enabled. Both of these options can be done in the following steps.

Get Code

  1. Select the "Get Code" button on the title you'd like to publish. You can also find the "Get Code" option on the Brightcove menu.
  2. Click "Copy Code."
  3. Paste the code into your webpage or social networking profile.

Blog This

This feature allows viral syndication of your Brightcove videos directly into blogs, directly from the player.

  1. Select the Brightcove menu button on the desired title.
  2. Select the "Blog This" icon.
  3. Select the blog service you use from the "Add to Your Blog" drop-down menu. Brightcove currently supports the following Blog services: Wordpress, Blogger, and TypePad.
  4. Enter your user name and password and click "Continue."
  5. Choose the specific blog you'd like to publish into (if you have multiple blogs in your account).
  6. If desired, create a "Post Title" and "Description" for your blog post in the respective fields.
  7. To modify the size of the video when it is published into your blog, you can choose from either a "Small Video (280x210)" or a "Large Video (480x360)."
  8. Click "Post Video" to publish the video to your blog.

Network Accounts

The "Get Code" and "Blog This" options can be disabled only on an overall account level. This means that all of the players in your account will not include the "Get Code" and "Blog This" feature when the Brightcove menu button is clicked.
To disable the "Get Code" feature, please take the following steps:

  1. Select the "Syndication" tab in your Brightcove Console.
  2. Select the "Default Settings" tab.
  3. Choose "None Selected" from the "Viral Distribution" drop-down menu.
You can also disable the Blog This menu icon separately. In order to remove the Blog This menu option separately for all your players, you should select a player template for your default viral title player that is not resizeable. The following player templates are resizeable: Single Title Player 1.0, Chromeless Single Title Player 1.0, and the Single Title Player 2.0.

Note: If you are distributing any of your titles to Brightcove.TV, the "Get Code" button will still appear on the Brightcove.TV players.

Platform Accounts

With a Platform account you have more control over viral syndication options. The "Get Code" button can be disabled for players, as well as for individual titles. For example, it is possible to have one player that includes titles that are both available and unavailable for viral syndication.
To toggle Viral Syndication on and off for a Title, please take the following steps:

  1. When creating or editing your title select the "Economics" tab
  2. Toggle the "Allow viral distribution of this Title" checkbox under "Distribution Options"
To toggle Viral Syndication on and off for a Player, please take the following steps:

  1. When creating or editing your player select the "Economics" tab
  2. Under the "Promotion" tab, toggle the "Allow viral distribution of individual Titles in this Player" checkbox
(Note: Viral syndication settings on the Player level override the settings on the title level. For example, if you allow the viral syndication of a title, and you are not allowing the viral syndication of a player, then that will keep the "Get Code" button disabled on every title in the Player.)

Every account comes with a Default Viral Title Player in the "Players" tab. This player holds your titles that are taken through viral syndication (when a viewer uses the "Get Code" button to embed one of your titles on his or her web page). This allows you to have control over how your titles are presented when syndicated on another web page. You have the ability to customize the look of this default player. If you have deleted this player or used it as a standard player you can simply create a new one.

The Default Viral Title Player can be customized like other players by selecting it and clicking the "Edit" button. However, the following must be true:

  1. Your Default Viral Title Player must use one of the Single Title Templates.
  2. Your Default Viral Title Player must not be assigned any video content.
  3. Your Default Viral Title Player must be in the Activated state.

You can change a player to be used as your Default Viral Title Player by doing the following:

  1. In the Brightcove Console, select the "Syndication" tab.
  2. Select the "Default Settings" tab.
  3. Under "Viral Syndication," use the drop-down to select from the Single Title Players in your account.
